CNN -- Nov 27 -- Nonnie Dotson is an army nurse, mother of a 16 month old baby, and an internet dater with profiles on MySpace and SingleParentMeet. I was asked to comment on the profiles. Here's my latest live interview on CNN's Nancy Grace. Nancy gives a recommendation, of sorts, for online dating. - Mark Brooks
Mark,
I thought you were polished and reasonable in your comments (too bad you did not have more time to comment about the content of the woman's profile). Congrats on the interview.
However, I was dismayed that the other interviewee (the academic) asserted that online relationships only give the "illusion" of attachment, intimacy and safety. Clearly, it is true to say that predators dupe victims and that some (or even many) online "relationships" are illusory. Of course, the same applies to offline relationships, and this academic seemed ignorant of the empirical research that suggests that netizens can and do form genuine and lasting bonds that survive into the offline world. Some of that research and my position on all of this can be found at: http://www.onlinedatingmagazine.com/columns/2006editorials/02-onlinedating.html
